Jesus and Domitian (Rob Bell on the Book of Revelations)

This is an awesome teaching and if you are an end times Bible buff.

Whatever you believe about the Book of Revelation, let alone Rob Bell, this teaching will challenge and actually give you tools to read the Book of Revelation with understanding.

It is a bit long, so get some coffee and gather the family... it is worth it.

(Oops! Thanks to Eric for pointing this out)

Pastoral Poetry isn't necessarily prophecy.

If one has a background to what is happening in a book one can understand it... and that is what I see Rob doing...

Yet, whether one sees Revelation as a book that is already fulfilled, then one must come to grips that Jesus really is not coming back... or that His return was/or only a Spiritual one...

Yet, I read in Acts that Jesus will return as he left... and that was bodily and actually setting His feet on the same mount He ascended from.

To be a pure preterits I think misses that point...

Yet one must admit it is fascinating how John used the politics of Emperor worship, and used it to show Jesus was Lord... and God over Domitian.

I am not sure by your remark if it is directed a Rob as being "Pastoral Poetry" or the Book of Revelation... yet even within the Book of R itself Jesus says, "I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.
And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people. Amen."

So from this, the Book itself tells us it is Prophetic and that Jesus will return soon.
