Prophetic voices from unusual sources: Camper van Beethoven

I am still a fan of Camper Van Beethoven. Their songs often are dark, brooding, quirky, funny, and at times deeper than they appear in their meaning. This song is called Life is Grand.

Life is Grand by Camper Van Beethoven

And life is grand

And I will say this at the risk of falling from favor

With those of you who have appointed yourselves

To expect us to say something darker

And love is real

And though I realize this is not a deep observation

To those of you who find it necessary

To conceal love or obscure it, as is the fashion

Prophetic voices from unexpected sources: Salvation ~ Elton John

Salvation performed by Elton John

I have to say my friends

This road goes a long, long way

And if we're going to find the end

We're gonna need a helping hand

I have to say my friends

We're looking for a light ahead

In the distance a candle burns

Salvation keeps the hungry children fed

It's gotta take a lot of salvation

What we need are willing hands

You must feel the sweat in your eyes

You must understand salvation

A chance to put the devil down

Without the fear of hell

Salvation spreads the gospel round

And free you from yourself

Please help keep iggyROCKS! on the air.

It is that time of year again... time to raise money to keep the station going. Personally, I hate to even ask for support, but that does not seem to be the way it goes. God has used this little station in ways I could not even imagined years ago when I started it as just a hobby. I have found people from many different countries that listen and am amazed that though little in size, iggyROCKS! has a global presence. I have even noticed from the statistics that iggyROCKS! is sneaking into countries that "Christian" stations are not allowed. While I do not want to put down other mega stations, (those stations have their place) their cost is in the multi millions! Meanwhile the cost to keep iggyROCKS! is around $500 a year. Image, per dollar and a global outreach versus multi millions of dollars, that by supporting iggyROCKS! with little cost, how much more your money does.

I believe the reason iggyROCKS! has grown and become what it has is do to the reason we stay true to music and teaching and entertaining shows. The music played most likely will not be heard on many stations, and often is by unsigned artists that would never get airplay otherwise. The teaching is picked purposely to create discussion and thought to add deminsion to a person's faith. The shows are picked to entertain, teach about faith in Jesus and to point out new music.

All we need to cover costs this year is $250. Please pray and consider helping if you can.

Blessings!

Show me how to live...

Each day we struggle with being a fallen creature who God has redeemed. If one is honest they will look in the mirror and see there is really nothing "special" about them that God would stoop low and offer salvation to any of us.

Yet, through Jesus we have just that! Audioslave is not a "Christian" group, yet within some of their lyrics there is this sense of struggle to live true to one's beliefs. Taking in that balance of coming into faith and believing God does see you as you are and loves you... and wills not to leave you how you are but to draw you ever deeper into Jesus Christ and show us how to live... and overcome our broken and fallen being and enter into something deeper that we could even imagine. "You gave me life now
Show me how to live"...

Show Me How To Live Lyrics
Artist(Band):Audioslave

In with the early dawn
Moving right along
I couldn’t buy an eye full of sleep
And in the aching night
Under satellites
I was not received
built with the stolen parts
A telephone in my heart
Someone get me a priest
To put my mind to bed
This ringing in my head
Is this a cure or is this a disease

Nail in my hand
From my creator
You gave me life now
Show me how to live
Nail in my hand
From my creator
You gave me life now
Show me how to live

In the afterbirth
On the quiet earth
Let this things remind you
You thought you made a man
You better think again
Before my role defines you

Nail in my hand
From my creator
You gave me a life
Now show me how to live
Nail in my hand
From my creator
You gave me life now
Show me how to live

And in your waiting hands
I will land
And roll out of my skin
And in your final hours I will stand
Ready to begin
Ready to begin
Ready to begin
Ready to begin

Nail in my hand
From my creator
You gave me life now
Show me how to live
Nail in my hand
From my creator
You gave me life now
Show me how to live
Show me how to live
Show me how to live
Show me how to live
Show me how to live

Hey Oh, listen what I say oh...

For those who are on Facebook, here is the link to the video.

Not sure why, but this song came on and my mind went to this passage...

John 6:62. What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before!63.The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. 64.Yet there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65. He went on to say, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him." 66. From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
67. "You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve.
68. Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."
70. Then Jesus replied, "Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!" 71. (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)

Holy Roller by Nazareth

This song has always amazed me. These are the same guys that brought us Hair of the Dog and other rockers... yet... they can see the clear hypocrisy in self righteousness. This is better than many sermons I have heard.

Holy Roller

Holy roller, lookin down
Where you think you know
All the answers
Arrogance and pride....are sin
Better look to your, own chances

Chorus:

Holy roller can you save your own soul
Can you save your own soul
Holy roller

Standin, up for jesus
Thats your thing
But youre standin on peoples hearts
Charity is a virtue
To be praised
Better get back on...jesus track

Chorus:

Holy roller, practice what you preach
Heaven, its still within your reach

Holy roller, dont you judge
What you think is goin wrong

Chorus: (2x)

Update on iggyROCKS!

It has been 9 years since I began iggyROCKS! From the beginning I never dreamed it would take off and have as many listeners and artists who have come to see iggyROCKS! as a value. Early in my Christian life I found that Christian/faith based music often helped me get through tough times. God used the music of Larry Norman, Degarmo and Key and many others to help me realize that God would also accept me. Yet, over the years something has changed with the Christian Music Industry. Best Praise song ever

The song was written in the 70's soon after Clapton was healed of a serious heroin addiction. The song gives credit to Who it was that helped him.

Derek Webb Stockholm Syndrome

The new CD by Derek Webb "Stockholm Syndrome" is here... sort of... on pre-order. There was some major controversy over a song on the CD. It seems there is compromise of sorts as there is a "clean" version and an explicit version.

White Man ~ The Michael Gungor Band

God is not a man
God is not a white man
God is not a man sitting on a cloud
God cannot be bought
God will not be boxed in
God will not be owned by religion
But God is love God is love
And He loves everyone God is love
God is love and He loves everyone
God is not a man
God is not an old man
God does not belong to Republicans
God is not a flag
Not even American
And God does not depend
On a government
But God is good God is good
And He loves everyone
Atheists and charlatans and
Communists and lesbians
And even old Pat Robertson oh
God He loves us all
Catholic or protestant
Terrorist or president
Everybody everybody love love
Love love love

Stop the hating please just stop
The hating now 'cause God is love

Green Day: We Love Jesus

I have always liked Green Day, yet with their last couple of CD's noticed a "change" in their music. They seemed to have gained a prophetic voice of sorts. There seemed to be more and more references to Jesus...
