To those against the Great Commission or i mean being Missional

To those against the Great Commission or I mean being Missional

To you anti-missional people out there… we emerging thought people use that for term for the great commission… so to us, if you say you are anti-missional, you are against the great commission… which Jesus commanded us to go and do!!!!!

One should do more reading with understanding before they say negative things out of ignorance.

I really had to laugh at one persons attempt to twist and put words in Brian McLarens mouth then slam the great commission as being wrong! I guess hate blinds people…

Hey iggy,

Again I think your post would benefit from a link to the group or idea that you are disagreeing with. The only time i have heard the term "anti-missional" is when people are challenging the reformed theology of election. I don't know if this is the idea that you are against, but if it is I know many calvinists who are big on missions. They simply feel that it is not their actions that bring someone to Christ, but rather the Holy Spirit. God may us them as a vessel, but ultimately even if we refused to be used in such a way, that person would still come to Christ (He may end up using the rocks and trees to minister to people, but when God sets His mind to something, it has a tendency to get done). This may not be what you are referring to and, if it isn't, I would be interested to know who are these anti-missional people and what do they believe.

and one more point if I may. Let's back down on the whole "hate" card. Unless someone has actually said that they hate someone or hate their ideas in a direct matter, it shouldn't be said. Even if you are pretty much certain that someone is being hateful by the context of what they say, it isn't helpful to bring it up unless they directly say it. It's a loaded word that ends up overshadowing your point and making you come off as contentious.

It is found on Phil Perkins last post at

http://zitsemerge.blogspot.com/2006/07/why-i-am-not-missional-part-one.html#links

Really i don't want to promote his blog much more than I had... but if you want a laugh on how someone goes so far to twist things out of context that they create another context which then creates the straw man they can attack... well herrrrrrrres Phil's latest post!

His hatred of Brian McLaren makes him unable to really see the point of the book he is reading... it is like he missed the intro and chapter 0 which lays everything down... and even tells the "critics" that and what they will criticize...

Dan,

About the "hate card" i am playing with the deck I was dealt and unfortunaltely if someone attacking me... or anyone in the physcial sense becuase of who or what i am... then that is a hate crime...

Especially in the case when someone is slandering another so they can look good like this Phil guy does. Having a run in with him already I know that he is "hater" and that is why I will not debate him locally as he is not even close to being able to understand what he is attacking.

He is a local guy that teaches a t local college here in town and started his blog by slandering me and John O'Keefe...

I contacted the college to get him to stop, yet they did nothing... I even tried to contact him and his email was not active, I tried to post and was edited out and then mocked as to what he said I posted... which can be read on this site under Phil Perkins has a website...

So, the hate card is on their side not mine... for I forgave and moved on, but know in I have local readers in MT and elsewhere that my be wondering for a time what hwas happened since then... well... again... I give you Phil!

(I know my humor, like Brian McLaren's may not always translate... but if you sat face to face with me, you'd see that i was laughing and being playful... so instead of a link, maybe I should have over used smiley faces)

Ben,

I guess that the fact he is contridicting himself by saying he is not missional, yet is should speak for itself as to his confused state of mind...

One can't be both for and against the same thing... it shows that one is only double minded...
